In June 2026, 440 Land Cruiser 40s gathered at a campsite at the foot of Mt. Fuji. Cars from the 1960s to the 1980s — a sight most 40 Series fans around the world would love to see even in photos. Yet most of the world never knew it happened.

Things like this happen in Japan all year round. In the volcanic highlands of Mt. Aso, owners are preparing the 27th edition of their annual gathering. In Hokkaido, a Toyota dealership builds an off-road course out of snow. Almost all of it is announced only in Japanese — on organisers' Instagram accounts and regional dealership pages. It can be difficult to find, or verify, in English.

This guide, put together by the Japan-based team behind Toyota Community, currently covers 15 events, each with a link to its event page. We verify organiser information wherever available and clearly label listings whose official channels are still being confirmed. Updated monthly.

TL;DR:

• Events run season by season — some with dates confirmed, others announced later in the year.
• Four events already have confirmed dates — three this autumn, one next spring. The rest are added as organisers announce them.
• Entry conditions vary widely — check each event's Visitor note and "Can you just show up?".

June 2026, Land Cruiser 40 Meeting EAST. The first thing I saw when I arrived was a line of 40s stretching all the way to the far end of the campground. Every one of them rusted or worn with age, their engines loud. I remember hearing that sound and feeling the excitement — I was really here.

What stayed with me most was a crimson coffee-stall Land Cruiser with "MJ Coffee Roaster" written on it. A truck decades old, still serving coffee, still loved. The 40s lined up across that campground were not cars restored for display — they were trucks still alive and in use. As Koyari-san, the former Land Cruiser chief engineer, puts it: "If you've only been in a 40 for ten years, you're still relatively new. Many people have been driving theirs for fifty."

At the opening ceremony, Koyari-san introduced Canguro Racing, who had come from the United States. Participants from France were introduced as well. The Land Cruiser connection crosses borders — and what struck me was that the visitors from overseas were themselves astonished at how many 40s had gathered in one place. There is a sight here that exists nowhere else in the world.

It was an event where you could feel the love for these trucks. That love simply hasn't reached most of the world yet — because the announcements only go out in Japanese. That is exactly why this guide matters.

Entry conditions differ completely from event to event. Four broad patterns:

• Open to everyone — LAND CRUISER FES JAPAN (over 1,600 vehicles on site including general-admission vehicles at the most recent edition)
• No reservation, pay on the day — Kyushu Land Cruisers Festa (Land Cruiser-family vehicles only; ¥5,000 per vehicle including camping, at the most recent edition)
• Community members only — LAND CRUISER BASE test-drive day at SAF (test-drives are for LAND CRUISER BASE members — owning a Land Cruiser is not required; the venue itself is open to anyone)
• Dealership customers only, by lottery — Aichi Toyota Land Cruiser Fes

Japan's Land Cruiser year has a rhythm: peak owners'-meeting season in autumn, snow events in the north in winter, 40 Series meetings in the west in spring, and the big festivals near Mt. Fuji in early summer.

Organisers fall into three broad types — owner volunteers, regional Toyota dealerships, and Toyota's official fan community (LAND CRUISER BASE). Japanese Toyota dealerships are independent regional companies, and many run their own Land Cruiser events. The tag on each event (Owners' meeting / Dealer-hosted / Toyota official) refers to this distinction.

Autumn 2026 (Sep–Nov) — peak owners'-meeting season

Confirmed Sep 12–13, 2026 / HLOM (Hokkaido Land Cruiser Owners Meeting) — Horomukaigawa Dam Park, Iwamizawa, Hokkaido | Owners' meeting — A grassroots meeting for Land Cruiser & FJ Cruiser owners, now at its 29th edition. Dates TBA usually the September holiday weekend / YAMAFES. — Numajiri ski area, Inawashiro, Fukushima | Land Cruiser festival — A regional festival co-hosted by the local dealership, four municipalities and local media: the "Land Cruiser Park" off-road experience, a Dakar Rally vehicle display, and camping. Confirmed Oct 31–Nov 1, 2026 / Kyushu Land Cruisers Festa — Gondo Charolais campsite, Mt. Aso area, Kumamoto | Owners' meeting — One of Kyushu's biggest Land Cruiser-only meetings, reaching its 27th edition in 2026. At the most recent edition: no reservation, ¥5,000 per vehicle including camping (day visits same price).
